Redvers, Saskatchewan, is a charming town nestled in the southeast of Canada. It holds the distinction of being the first town you encounter when traveling west from Manitoba on the historic Red Coat Trail. This trail, now known as Highway 13, was the route taken by the North-West Mounted Police during their March West in 1874. A statue of a Mountie on horseback, a tribute to this historical journey, stands proudly just west of the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 8.
Redvers, Saskatchewan, is a thriving community with a public school, a hospital, two banks, and a variety of businesses and services. The town's economy is primarily based on farming, oil drilling, and various services, typical of many towns in the area.
Redvers, Saskatchewan, was named in honor of General Sir Redvers Buller in 1897. At the time, Buller was engaged in the Second Boer War and had previously commanded a company to suppress the Red River Rebellion. The town was officially incorporated in 1904 and celebrated its centennial on July 30, 2004.
According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Redvers, Saskatchewan, had a population of 1,008. These residents were living in 443 of the town's 514 total private dwellings. This represented a slight decrease of 3.3% from its 2016 population of 1,042. With a land area of 2.9 km2 (1.1 sq mi), Redvers had a population density of 347.6/km2 (900.2/sq mi) in 2021.
