The area that is now Langham was primarily settled by Mennonites. The town was named after E. Langham, a purchasing agent for the Canadian National Railway. The establishment of a rail line between Saskatoon and Edmonton, Alberta in 1904 marked the birth of Langham. It was declared a village in 1906 and became a town in 1907.
