Lampman, Saskatchewan is a quaint town nestled in the south-east part of the Canadian province. Home to approximately 735 residents, this small town is situated about 30 miles north-east of Estevan. Lampman is known for its proximity to Lake Roy, a shallow lake located to the north-west of the town that occasionally floods into the town. The town's water supply is sourced from two deep wells that undergo a thorough water treatment process.
The village of Lampman was officially founded on September 13, 1910. It was later elevated to the status of a town on June 1, 1963. The town was named in honor of the Canadian poet Archibald Lampman, who was a member of the Confederation Poets. Lampman, Saskatchewan is also a part of the "Poet's Corner" in south-east Saskatchewan. This region is known for its communities and stops along the CN Railway that were named after renowned British and Canadian poets. These include Carlyle (Thomas Carlyle), Browning (Robert Browning), Service (Robert W. Service), Cowper (William Cowper), and Wordsworth (William Wordsworth).
According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Lampman had a population of 673 living in 271 of its 327 total private dwellings. This represented a slight decrease of -0.3% from its 2016 population of 675. With a land area of 2.13 km2 (0.82 sq mi), the town had a population density of 316.0/km2 (818.3/sq mi) in 2021.
Lampman boasts a community complex that features an outdoor swimming pool, an ice hockey arena, a curling rink with four sheets of ice, and five baseball diamonds. The town also has a racetrack, a golf course, a campground, parks, and a walking path. The Lampman A's baseball team, a local favorite, was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame on August 18, 2012.
Lampman is equipped with a volunteer ambulance service, a volunteer fire department, and an emergency rescue team. The town is serviced by a freight railway line, a grain elevator, the Lampman Airport (CJQ2), and two highways, Highway 361 and Highway 605.
