Caronport, Saskatchewan is a quaint village nestled within the Rural Municipality of Caron No. 162 and Census Division No. 7. Located just 21 km west of the bustling City of Moose Jaw on the Trans-Canada Highway, Caronport is a hidden gem in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
Caronport's history dates back to January 1, 1988, when it was officially incorporated as a village. The village's unique name is a nod to its historical roots as a World War II British Commonwealth training base for pilots. The base, known as RCAF Station Caron, was situated near the hamlet of Caron, hence the name Caronport, a combination of Caron and Airport.
RCAF Station Caron was operational from December 17, 1941, to January 14, 1944. Although the runways have long since fallen into disuse, they played a significant role in shaping the layout of the village. The original runway placement determined the structure of Caronport as we know it today.
