Georgian Bluffs is a charming township nestled in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Situated in Grey County, it lies between the picturesque Colpoy's Bay and Owen Sound on Georgian Bay. The township was officially incorporated on January 1, 2001, through the amalgamation of the former townships of Derby, Keppel, and Sarawak, along with the village of Shallow Lake.
The historical roots of Georgian Bluffs are deeply intertwined with the now-former township of Derby. The township was surveyed by the renowned Crown land surveyor Charles Rankin in 1846, marking a significant milestone in its history.
Georgian Bluffs is home to a myriad of communities, each with its unique charm and character. The township comprises the communities of Alvanley, Balmy Beach, Benallen, Big Bay, Clavering, Copperkettle, Cruickshank, East Linton, Hogg, Inglis Falls, Jackson, Keady, Kemble, Kilsyth, Lake Charles, Lindenwood, Oxenden, Shallow Lake, Shouldice, Springmount, Squire, Wolseley, and Zion.
According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Georgian Bluffs had a population of 11,100. This population was spread across 4,495 of its 5,269 total private dwellings, marking a 5.9% increase from its 2016 population of 10,479. With a land area of 599.96 km2 (231.65 sq mi), Georgian Bluffs had a population density of 18.5/km2 (47.9/sq mi) in 2021.
