Saint-Isidore, a former village in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada, is a community rich in history and culture. Once a standalone village, Saint-Isidore is now part of the town of Hautes-Terres since 2023. It shares borders with the communities of Pont-Landry, Hacheyville, Bois-Gagnon, and Tilley Road, and is nestled on the Acadian Peninsula.
Saint-Isidore falls within the sphere of influence of the town of Tracadie-Sheila. The community is predominantly Acadian, with French being the mother tongue of most residents who are of the Catholic faith. The local school, École la Relève, caters to students from kindergarten through seventh grade.
The main industries in Saint-Isidore are agriculture, asphalt, and services. The community boasts a local museum, a public pool, and several parks, contributing to the quality of life in the municipality. Provincial Route 160 and Route 135 cross through Saint-Isidore, connecting it to other parts of New Brunswick.
Saint-Isidore was founded by Rev. Gagnon in 1876 and later merged with the community of Bois-Hébert. This merger led to the incorporation of the current Village de Saint-Isidore in 1991, with Norbert J. Sivret serving as the first mayor. The majestic local church, built in 1904, stands as a testament to the Acadian influence in the area. On 1 January 2023, Saint-Isidore amalgamated with the village of Paquetville and parts of six local service districts to form the new town of Hautes-Terres. Despite this, the name Saint-Isidore continues to be used officially.
According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Saint-Isidore had a population of 810, living in 364 of its 387 total private dwellings. This represented a 6% increase from its 2016 population of 764. With a land area of 22.94 km2 (8.86 sq mi), the population density stood at 35.3/km2 (91.5/sq mi) in 2021.
