The Historical Roots of Warren, Manitoba

The post office in Warren opened its doors in 1882, originally named Hanlan. In 1912, it was renamed to Warrenton, while the community and Canadian National Railway point adopted the name Warren. However, the post office retained the name Warrenton until it was rescinded in 1955.

Historical records from the Geographic Board of Canada in 1905 reveal that the post office and township were named Hanlan in honour of Edward "Ned" Hanlan, the "champion oarsman of the world" from 1880 to 1884. The name Warren was given by the CNR in 1905, after A.E. Warren, who served as the Western Vice President of the CNR.

Warren, Manitoba: A Hub of Agriculture

In 1948, a 40,000-bushel wooden grain elevator was constructed by the Manitoba Pool Elevator, marking a significant milestone in Warren's agricultural history. The elevator's capacity was more than doubled in 1958 with the addition of an attached crib annex. Although operations ceased in 2000, the municipality acquired the site, which is now used for community events.
