Thorhild, Alberta has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. The hamlet was initially a village until April 1, 2009, when it dissolved and became a part of the County of Thorhild No. 7. The original incorporation as a village took place on December 31, 1949.
The Alberta and Great Waterways Railway played a significant role in the establishment of Thorhild. They purchased the original townsite for $480 on July 16, 1914. Following this, a Royal Mail Canada post office was promptly set up in the community, marking the beginning of Thorhild's journey as a thriving settlement.
